We are thrilled to share the success of a groundbreaking initiative aimed at revolutionizing Sri Lanka’s transportation sector. In partnership with the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and the University of Surrey, Alta Vision has developed a sustainable and innovative solution to address rising fuel costs and environmental challenges.

Project Overview

On October 30, 2024, at Waters Edge, Battaramulla, Alta Vision showcased an electric Tuk-Tuk conversion project featuring a swappable battery system. Funded by Innovate UK Energy Catalyst Round 9 – Early Stage, this project offers Tuk-Tuk drivers a cost-effective, eco-friendly alternative powered by renewable energy.

Key Features:
  1. Swappable Battery System:
    • Solar-charged batteries designed for affordability and efficiency.
  2. Subscription Model:
    • Drivers can easily replace depleted batteries with fully charged ones for a small fee.
  3. Solar-Powered Charging Stations:
    • Charging infrastructure ensures renewable energy utilization.
  4. Real-Time Monitoring:
    • Advanced data collection for streamlined battery transactions.

Achievements and Impact

  1. Economic Benefits:
    • Alleviates the financial burden of fluctuating fuel costs for Tuk-Tuk drivers.
  2. Environmental Impact:
    • Promotes solar energy use, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and minimizing carbon emissions.
  3. Successful Pilot:
    • Three Tuk-Tuks converted during the pilot phase, showcasing the viability of the solution.
  4. Scalability:
    • A replicable model designed to expand across Sri Lanka.
